Frequently Asked Questions

What firms ask us before they switch

Straight answers to the questions every firm asks. If you have one we haven't covered, call Kelly directly on 07 3040 3036.

Does Law App have general accounting built in?
Yes. Law App includes full general accounting built directly into the platform — no Xero, no MYOB, no integration required. This is Law App's single biggest differentiator from LEAP and Smokeball, both of which require a Xero subscription at extra cost. One system, one subscription, complete accounting.
How does Law App's pricing work?
Law App is priced per file opened, not per user per month. There are three plan options to suit different firm sizes and working arrangements — including part-time user options. The file opening fee can also be on-charged to the client as a disbursement, which means the software can effectively pay for itself. Law App offers single year contracts only — there are no 3-year lock-ins.
Where is Law App data hosted?
All Law App data is hosted exclusively on Microsoft Azure Australia East. Your data never leaves Australia. This is a firm commitment, not a regional option that might change. This is a significant difference from LEAP, which uses AWS with data regions that vary globally.
Is Law App a good alternative for FilePro firms?
Law App is the only FilePro alternative that matches FilePro's per file pricing model. FilePro is being sunset on 31 December 2026 following its acquisition by ActionStep. Law Support Australia has 15 years of FilePro experience and built Australia's first bulk document extraction tool, which is used in every FilePro migration. Kelly Mills worked as a FilePro technician and state manager — she knows your system inside out.
Does Law App support AML Tranche 2 compliance?
AML compliance tooling is currently being built directly into Law App. AUSTRAC enrolment for Tranche 2 opened 31 March 2026, with full obligations commencing 1 July 2026. Law App's approach means firms subject to these new obligations will have their AML compliance built into their practice management platform — no separate tool, no additional subscription.
Is Law App owned by a VC-backed company?
No. Law Support Australia is Brisbane-based and owner operated. It is not venture capital backed. This matters because VC-backed legal software companies face investor pressure that often leads to large price increases, acquisition, and platform changes — which is exactly what happened to FilePro and LawMaster after ActionStep acquired them.
